AP Art Portfolio
Quality Section (1 of 5) [the other pieces in this section already belong to another section, and resubmitting would be stupid]

This was a fun piece to make. First i made a plaster mold of my face (a very interesting experience, think the feeling of being underwater, but you can breathe and slowly the water around you hardens. You are not a true sculptor until you have experienced this!) then i took slabs of clay and pressed them into the mold, then i let them leather harden, cut them up (another wierd experience, cutting up your own face) then finally fired them and arranged them. Comments appreciated!

I was laying on the floor when I did mine--it was still weird though. Time slows down to an absolute crawl--it's almost like an isolation tank...
:iconangelfury:
well, cant say ive been in an isolation tank, but i do agree with the extremely slow passage of time, Afro Celt Sound System helped alot though to give my brain something to do.
:iconangelfury:
well...i sure hope so, a 5 would really make me crap my pants then leap for joy!

I haven't actually been in one either, but the sensory deprivation of the plaster mask must be like a taste. I don't think I had any music on at the time--probably would've made things easier. I'll probably post more of the series here eventually.

An amazing piece, I'd love to check this out in real life.

This sort of stuff has always interested me, and is a MUST for my favourites list ;)
:iconangelfury:
cool, love to see them!

I've got one up in my gallery now--"Last One". I'll put the others in as I go...

that is amazing! I still cannot get one face right which just makes this even more amazing!

Good god! As a self-portrait, this is saying a hell of a lot! The idea of fragmenting your own head and face can imply many different interpretations: confusion, disintigration as well as completion (the outward/inward movement), discarding superficiality, masking, etc. There are a lot more, I'm sure. Formally, this is very well thought out. The triangular composition really draws the eye about to different parts of the piece, ultimately landing on the inverted Y shape that bisects the central face. The repeated features, especially the eyes, give the piece a rhythm and a slight movement. The general feel from this is very serene and calm (could have something to do with so many closed eyes). I hope all goes well for you in school
